These are lightweight and good for moving around without feeling too bulky. I also like how it's one piece with joints that align with the joints of the body. I never feel like my protection is slipping off, and really don't need to adjust them while sparring.

I got injured last summer while wearing my HEMA gear, for which I got hit between the knee and shin because my pads were separate pieces and I was using cheap Walmart biking pads. It then prompted me to learn a valuable lesson about the necessity of having real leg protection, and that's where these Purpleheart guards come in.
