Put it on without the gel cap and with the gel cap. It fits close to perfect without the cap and is far to snug with the cap. ABSOLUTELY get a size bigger than you normally wear for a normal fencing mask. The mask I ordered may be a large, but it's a TIGHT large where as the AF basic that I've been using is a loose medium on me. My head measurement is 64.5/65 cm. I'm very happy I went with the lar
